LME Podcast 39: Squeegee Men

Welcome to LME Podcast number 39. Have a good time listening to this podcast, everyone!!!

Squeegee Men

Better have a buck handy if you get caught at a red light in the Big Apple—the squeegee men are back. Armed with a bottle of Windex and a crumpled up newspaper, these men walk up to your car and clean your windshield—whether it’s dirty or not. The vagrants were a big problem in the 80s and 90s but were run out of business as a part of New York’s “broken windows theory” policies. But they’re back—and people don’t like it.

A buck: một đô la
Handy: thuận tiện, tiện tay
Caught at a red light: dừng lại ở nơi đèn đỏ
The Big Apple: thành phố New York (NYC)
Squeegee: chổi cao su (để lau cửa sổ)
Armed with...: có, sở hữu, được trang bị cái gì đó
Windex: một loại chất tẩy rửa để lau chùi cửa sổ
Crumple up the newspaper: vò nhàu một tờ báo
Windshield: kính chắn gió xe ô tô
Vagrants: người lang thang
Run out of business: ngưng hoạt động, phá sản
Broken windows theory: học thuyết cửa sổ vỡ - càng nhiều cửa sổ trong thành phố bị vỡ, càng có nhiều tội phạm

Country Shane's FACTS!

Some teens use Windex on their zits! Don’t do it!! Windex is serious stuff and can eat through plastic! It is NOT something you want on your skin—especially in your eyes.
